They have these boxing schools all over Thailand. I've been inside a few and one of things that stood out was the amount of westerners at these places. The westerners pay a pretty premium price (compared to Thai standards) to be there, some even sleeping and eating there for months at a time.

I found out that most of these schools have and want western students as they really help cover the expenses. Most of the Thai kids at these schools live at the school full time and are not charged (the school does take a share of the purse if they do end up in a pay fight). Most are from very poor families, some are unwanted or troubled youths.

I think this is the reason why they created shows like "The Contender" in AXN channel.. and now a new show called "The Challenger Muay Thai" which will be aired starting tomorrow September 15, 2011..

I believe what DJmaster telling is true. my buddy from college migrated to Thailand and train there for his passion in Muay Thai. i heard he gets the best training over there compared to other countries. and I guess he feel in love with Thailand as well.
