(UPDATE) POLICE rounded up at least eight suspected big-time "shabu" (methamphetamine hydrochloride or "ice") dealers in Pasig City on Friday, a police official said.
Operatives of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF) swooped down on four houses in Pineda village at 2 p.m. Friday armed with arrest and search warrants for four suspects, AIDSOTF commander Director Marcelo Ele Jr. said.
"The raid is still ongoing… These are big time suspects who supply shabu to Pasig and other neighboring cities," Ele said in a phone interview.
Ele could not immediately identify the suspects. He said an undetermined amount of "shabu" and other drug paraphernalia were sized during the raid.
One of the houses in Friday’s raid was owned by a suspected shabu peddler who allowed customers to use the illegal drug inside. Four people who were allegedly caught in the act while using shabu were arrested.
He said the AID-SOTF was investigating if the suspects were connected with a "shabu supermarket" in Sto. Tomas village in the same city, which authorities raided last February 10.
The discovery of the huge illegal drug facility resulted in the relief of Eastern Police District (EPD) commander Chief Superintendent Oscar Valenzuela and Pasig City Police chief Senior Superintendent Raul Medina.
Pasig City Vicente Eusebio also got into hot water. The National Police Commission (Napolcom) stripped him of control over police after he ordered the dismantling of the "shabu supermarket."
The Napolcom said Eusebio's move was "illegal" since it resulted in the destruction of evidence. _________________
